In the shadow of the new Burlington Plaza development, this portico is perched on the corner of Burlington Road and Wellington Lane. It’s missing from Google Maps, removed from the site and re-erected following the construction period.
It looks as if the exposed edge is the back, as there’s a cornice running around the Burlington Plaza face and the two sides, with double columns facing the Plaza and single columns to the rear (all granite, all Ionic capitals). I’m not sure about its origins and how it ended up sharing space with the “unrivalled, unparalled” (and unoccupied?) beast gleaming behind it, but it’s quite a nice surprise and might work well once the planting matures.
